Nuclear Energy? Is it necessary?

In a tropical country X, one of the ministers suggested that the country should use nuclear energy to generate electricity, instead of burning fuels. According to him, nuclear energy does not bring harm to the environment and it isn't too expensive. He said he's planning to do this in his country.

Well, I was wondering if using nuclear energy to generate electricity is necessary in this country. As stated above, X is a tropical country. It locates at the Equator. Solar energy can be acquired almost every day, which can be the cheapest and the most abundant natural resources.

Nuclear energy, even though it can be use to generate large amount of electricity, it requires a lot of radioactive substances. After using those radioactive substances, the wastes need to be discarded. This action may pollute the environment. On the other hand, solar energy does not cause so much trouble as the nuclear energy does. It only requires photovoltaic cell, which can convert the solar energy into electrical energy.

Are those people helping the country? Or simply trying to come out with more projects to bring them more income? I wonder.

I must tell you you haven't taken into consideration all the factors.

Concerning solar energy, it IS NOT CHEAP at all. It is the most expensive, per kilowatt, to generate in the world. The only thing that is keeping this source alive is hope.

Besides, our country has monsoon seasons and so forth. Our weather is terribly fickle. It is interesting to note that solar energy is completely feasible only in the North or South pole, due to a very predictable and high number of daylight hours.

Besides, solar panels generate tons of toxic waste, which need lots of treating to convert back into harmless substances.

In China, they have (ironically) lowered the price of their photovoltaic cells by not treating this waste. High 5 for being Chinese, man :)

If you want to store solar energy, it costs tonnes of money too. Currently, another huge obstacle is that we have no good and cheap "storage system".

That's all I have to say. Please reconsider nuclear energy. It has the potential to save the world. Malaysia has quite a few rather feasible locations for nuclear plants to be built.
